Due to this, the company had to give Kash n' Karry was named from the Neutrality Act of 1939 by Theodore Roosevelt which contains the Cash and Carry program. This program allowed for the Alli Powers to come over to the U.S. and get weapons and pay in cash and must bring it back to their soil themselves. Kash n' Karry believed this should how their store should be runned. People bring in their "cash" and they "carry" out there own groceries. They left out fu-fu parts of supermarkets like cotensts, customer service reps., and of couse samples.
[edit] Sweetbay history
In January 2004, after years of slumping sales growth, Kash n' Karry announced the creation and roll out of a new supermarket concept called Sweetbay Supermarket in its core markets on the West Coast of Florida. By the end of 2007 all Kash n' Karry stores will be rebranded as Sweetbay Supermarket. The first of the new Sweetbay Supermarkets opened in Seminole (Pinellas County) on November 6 and in Ft. Myers markets in December 2004.
Sweetbay is modeled after Hannaford, a New England supermarket chain also owned by Delhaize, incorporating store design, logo/branding elements, price points, and a no-loyalty-card "everyday price" program from its northeastern sister company. Additionally, Sweetbay stocks Hannaford-branded products as its generic store brand.[1]
