Syracuse is a city in Davis County, Utah, between the Great Salt Lake and Interstate 15, about 25 miles north of Salt Lake City.
As of the 2000 census, the city population was 9,398 and by 2006 was estimated at 21,100 (courtesy of demographic information on official city website. Click here to read more). The city grew rapidly during the 1990s; city officials estimate it continues to grow by 12% per year.
Syracuse was incorporated on September 3, 1935.

Syracuse is located at GR1, at an approximate elevation of 4,240 feet (1,290 meters).
(41.084167, -112.063426)According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 22.6 km² (8.7 mi²), none of which is covered with water. The city is located on the eastern side of the Great Salt Lake. Syracuse, like many other places in Utah and surrounding desert states, has hot, dry summers, and cold, snowy winters. Spring is the wettest season.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 9,398 people, 2,490 households, and 2,263 families residing in the city. The population density was 416.6/km² (1,078.9/mi²). There were 2,601 housing units at an average density of 115.3/km² (298.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 94.81% White, 1.40% Asian, 0.43% African American, 0.31% Native American, 0.20% Pacific Islander, 1.26% from other races, and 1.60% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.65% of the population.
There were 2,490 households out of which 60.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 83.3% were married couples living together, 5.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 9.1% were non-families. 7.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 2.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.8 and the average family size was 3.99.
In the city the population was spread out with 39.8% under the age of 18, 10.6% from 18 to 24, 30.7% from 25 to 44, 14.9% from 45 to 64, and 3.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 25 years. For every 100 females there were 104.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.4 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $58,223, and the median income for a family was $60,000. Males had a median income of $41,346 versus $24,792 for females. The per capita income for the city was $16,989. About 2.1% of families and 2.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.9% of those under age 18 and 6.5% of those age 65 or over.
[edit] Commercial Development
In the Spring of 2006, a large national commercial developer began construction on a new town center which is located on the land adjacent to Syracuse Jr. High School. The town center is located within walking distance of most of the city's houses and will include many large retail chains such as a Starbucks, Wendy's, Checker Auto Parts (now open), Baskin Robbins (under construction), Godfather's Pizza (now open), Papa Murphy's (now open), Quiznos, and a Wal-Mart Supercenter (now open). The town center may also include other restaurants and housing areas.
Also, a notification has been posted by Hawes Brubaker Neider, LLC just west of the new Wal-Mart Supercenter that says that a "Syracuse Cinema, restaurants, retail space and office space" are coming Fall 2007. The 10 acre parcel will be developed to include a 6 screen stadium seated theater, with retail pads, restaurant, retail and office space available.
