Talk:Syrinx
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Well, this is a poser. Pan pipes is by far the better known name, but the Syrinx article was pretty complete (except for the pipes). I cut the Syrinx article out of EB1911 and substantially rewrote it, including important information that the instrument was predecessor of pipe organ and harmonica, then belatedly looked at Pan pipes and discovered there was an article already there, mostly quoting from the article on Pan.
I decided, arbitrarily, to make Pan pipes the redirect and Syrinx the main article, but it is surely a coin flip, given the reliability of redirection. If you want to flip them back, you are welcome, but using Syrinx as the main article has the advantage of picking up the extra meanings of syrinx and the interesting info on its plural. I think also that one article is better than two here. Ortolan88 16:07 Aug 10, 2002 (PDT)
And then someone else decided two articles was better than one. I made some changes to make two articles work. So it goes. Ortolan88 13:41 Sep 2, 2002 (PDT)
Is this the best place for "Temples of the Syrinx" section? It seems a bit out of place. Scix 07:27, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
