Anti-hero
From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An Anti-hero is a person who is not a hero, but not a villain. Most of the time it is used to refer to a character in fiction, television, or films. Sometimes it is used to refer to a living person or person from history.
Like heroes, anti-heroes are persons that you root for. But anti-heroes often do things heroes would not do. For example, the English legend Robin Hood fights against the evil Sherriff of Nottingham and King John I. He fights for the poor. He steals from the rich and gives to the poor. Most heroes do not steal; it's wrong to steal. But Robin Hood is not a villain. He does an evil thing-- he steals-- in order to good-- help the poor. This would make him an anti-hero.
Larry Flynt, a man in the 20th Century who published pornography-- pictures and films of real persons in sexual acts-- is sometimes called an anti-hero. Most people do not think publishing pornography is something that heroes do. But he stood up for the right to free speech in two very important United States Supreme Court cases. So some people think he is an anti-hero.
Anti-heroes are sometimes more popular than heroes. Heroes are perfect, but most people aren't. Since an anti-hero is not perfect, they are more like most people. They are more realistic.
