Crazy Horse Memorial
From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Crazy Horse Memorial is a mountain in South Dakota, USA, that has been carved into a huge statue of Crazy Horse, a famous Lakota warrior. It was started by a man named Korczak Ziolkowski who was asked by a group of tribal chiefs to carve a statue to honor their people. Ziolkowski started carving the mountain in 1948. He refused to take money from the government and worked on the statue until his death in 1982. After Ziolkowski died, his wife and children continued working on the statue and are still working today. When Crazy Horse is completed it will be the largest statue in the world.
