Dari
From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dari is the name of a dialect of the Persian language. It is spoken in Afghanistan, and some parts of Iran.
In the past, the name Dari was also used for the dialects that kings and learned people spoke. Most of the old Persian poems and stories are written in Dari.
There are thousands and thousands of pages in Dari language from great Afghan poets, like Jalaludin Balkhi, Rumi, Bayhaqi and Nasser Khesrow. Although Ferdousi was from Iran, he was employed by the great Afghan Sultan Mahmood Ghaznavi to finish his Shahnameh in Dari, in Ghazni, a city less than 100 miles (160km) from Kabul.
