Doughnut
From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A doughnut (spelt donut in American English) is a sweet deep-fried piece of dough or batter.
[edit] Types of donuts
The two most common types of doughnut are ring doughnuts, which are shaped like rings, and filled doughnuts, which are round and have jam, jelly, custard, whipped cream, or chocolate inside them. Most donuts have an icing (also called a "frosting") made with icing sugar, water, and flavorings (such as chocolate). Some donuts are rolled in sweet foods such as sugar or shredded coconut.
[edit] Serving
Donuts are often eaten in the morning, along with a cup of hot coffee. Donuts can be purchased from donut shops or from grocery stors. People also eat donuts as a dessert, or as a snack.
[edit] Health problems
Although donuts are tasty, they pose health problems. One of these problems is that donuts contain a large amount of fat. Eating too much fat can lead to clogged arteries. Arteries are a tube inside the body that carries blood away from the heart. This blood is rich in oxygen. When the arteries get clogged, blood doesn't go through them easily. As well, donuts contain a large amount of sugar and white flour, which the body converts to fat.
