Gestation

Gestation (jes-tay-shon) is a term from biology. It means that the female of an animal that bears children (that is to say, that does not lay eggs) carries a foetus or embryo inside her womb. In mammals, there is the possiblity that one female can have multiple gestations at the same time. Such births are usually calld twins. The time the female spends till the birth of the young is usually called gestation period. Humans have a gestaion period of around 37 weeks.
