Improverts
From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The popular short-form improvised comedy troupe based in Edinburgh. Their home is the Bedlam Theatre and has been since they were born 18 years ago. They follow in the tradition of Who's Line is it Anyway?, Comedy Store Players, and Keith Johnstone-inspired short form improv games.
They have taken part in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival almost annually since their birth. Also they've played every Friday night of term time (as their primary audience is Edinburgh University students) at 10.30pm. They're still going strong.
Because they are a bit of an institutional residence in Bedlam Theatre, the theatre technicians, loyal to the Improverts cause, improvise the sounds, music and lights along with the short scenes, which is loud and annoying every so often, but at best is something quite spectacular, showing off their ridiculously big iTunes library of songs and sound effects (British 80's kids' programmes' theme tunes are a particular obscure favourite of theirs)
Past players have gone on to from improv troupes in London, the resident Stand Players' "Who's Lunch is it anyway" free improv show at Edinburgh's The Stand comedy venue, become successful stand up comedians and gone on to star in British sit-coms, TV drama, films and popular kids' programme Balamory.
