Jane Means Appleton Pierce (March 12 1806 - December 2 1863) was the wife of Franklin Pierce, President of the United States. She acted as the First Lady of the United States from 1853 to 1857.
Her father’s name was Jesse Appleton. When her father died, her mother moved with her to Amherst, New Hampshire. In Amherst, the young Jane met a young lawyer, Franklin Pierce. She married him many years after this meeting. At the time of the marriage, she was 28 years old.
