A songwriter is a writer who writes songs. A songwriter generally writes popular songs. He does not generally write art songs. Sometimes, a songwriter may also sing the songs, which they write. They may also write songs, which others may sing.
The history of writing songs is thousands of years old. Scholars believe that men and women may have created and sung songs even at the time of prehistory. The tradition had continued, and songwriters had written and sung the songs written by them. Many modern bands have one or two members who write songs for the band. All members sing the songs.
