T & T Supermarket
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
T & T Supermarket is headquartered in Richmond, British Columbia. In 1993, the first T & T was opened in Burnaby's "Metropolis at Metrotown" shopping centre in Greater Vancouver. It has been referred to as the Asian Loblaws.
With rapid expansion, T & T is now Canada's largest Asian supermarket chain. It has eight stores in Greater Vancouver, three in Alberta (two in Calgary and one in Edmonton) and four stores in Greater Toronto, making a total of 15 stores in the chain. More stores are expected to open in the coming years with a target for 10 in eastern Canada.
The average size of each store is between 35,000 sq. ft. and 45,000 sq. ft. In addition to the many departments found in a regular supermarket, most T & T stores also have an in-house bakery, an Asian deli, a Sushi and a Chinese BBQ department.
Privately held T & T is a joint venture of Uni-President Enterprises Corp., one of Taiwan's ten largest conglomerates; Tawa Supermarkets Inc., a California-based chain of Asian supermarkets; and a group of Canadian investors. T&T supermarkets have also operated in the United States under the joint venture. The supermarket in Monterey Park, California and Rosemead, California have been converted to a 99 Ranch Market, while the one in Rowland Heights, California was converted to a 99 Ranch Market focusing on vegetarian and produce goods before subsequently being closed.
