"Front Page Pee-wee" | "Playhouse Day" |
Tango Time is the 39th episode of Pee-wee's Playhouse.
Pee-wee and Pterri switch roles in a game of fetch. With the help of some animated footprints, Pee-wee teaches Mrs. Renee how to tango. This episode (even by Pee-wee's Playhouse standards) is considered to be quite bizarre by many fans.

[edit] Plot
[edit] Broken Toy
[edit] Feeding Roosevelt
This episode features the somewhat bizarre, full-minute long close up of Roosevelt the dog eating his dog food. There is no explanation for this, or any comment -- at the end, Pee-Wee looks a little disgusted, however.
[edit] The King of Cartoons
The King of Cartoons starts off by reciting William Shakespear's "To Be or Not to Be" speech from Hamlet. The King also shows two cartoons, which is a little unusual.
[edit] Playing Fetch
Pterri wants to play fetch with Pee-Wee. Specifically, he wants to be the one to throw, with Pee being the one to catch. They try it that way, against Pee-Wee's objections, and both agree it's more fun the usual way. Pee-Wee throws the frisbee out the window and Pterri flies after it. While Pterri is gone, Pee-Wee shows a Penny cartoon.
[edit] Dancing Lessons
Mrs. Renee comes in with a rose in her mouth, saying she wants Pee-Wee to teach her. She says she already knows a few steps, and demonstrates some 60s style dances, like the swim. Pee-Wee finally agrees to teach her, using his "magic footprints." The footprints go too FAST (scream!) but Mrs. Renee and Pee-Wee are finally able to put on a romantic tango. They tango their way out of the playhouse's front door, past an enormous lava lamp, and into open air. When they realize they are standing on thin air, Pee-Wee steps back inside, but Mrs. Renee falls into a river.
[edit] Photo Memories
Cowboy Curtis comes over for a visit. He and Pee-Wee look at a photo-album, and remember the time that Cowboy Curtis bought a pair of rollerskates that made him go real FAST (scream!) and the time when the lights went out, and Pee-Wee sat on Mrs. Renee by accident. They finally decide to take a picture of themselves looking at the photographs, so they could remember looking at the photographs.
[edit] A Replay of the Entire Show
Pee-Wee wishes he could relive the whole day. Jambi obliges with a very quick, fast-forward version of the entire show. Then Pee-Wee puts on his helmet and gets on his scooter to leave for the day.
[edit] Trivia
- The shot of Pterri going after the frisbee is reused from Pee-wee Catches a Cold.
- The King of Cartoons' William Shakespeare speech came from Hamlet.
