Tao Li (Chinese: 陶李, Pinyin: Táo Lǐ; born 10 January 1990 in Hubei, China) is a competitive swimmer with Singaporean citizenship since 2005 after she moved to the country in 2002.[1][2]
Apart from having represented the Republic at the SEA Games and Asian Games, Tao, a Singapore Sports School student, currently holds several national records. She took part in the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. [1] In between those competitions she won four gold and a bronze medal at the 2005 Southeast Asian Games held in the Philippines. In December 2006, Tao won a gold medal at the 50m butterfly in Doha's 2006 Asian Games, beating China's multi-gold medallist Xu Yanwei and breaking her own national record in the process.[3] She also won a bronze medal at the 100m butterfly earlier in the tournament. She will be the favourite for an Olympic gold in Beijing 2008.
