Tarick worked hard at boxing as a child growing up in Detroit, MI. He trained at the world renowned Kronk gym in Detroit. His father and grandfather were boxers, and at a young age Tarick met the legend of boxing, Muhammad Ali. The words and advice Ali gave Salmaci stuck with him throughout his childhood. Tarick is married to an Italian and they have a young daughter.

Still fighting after being featured on the reality tv show The Contender, where having been placed on the West Coast Team Tarick was voted back as a fan favorite by America to fight in "The Contender" finale at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
Tarick held the NABO Super Middleweight Title from March 1997, and rose through the rankings being rated #4 in the world by the WBO and 6th by the WBC. He was offered a fight for the world championship against Joe Calzaghe. Fight was cancelled due to an injury Joe Calzaghe sustained in training. "The Contender" came calling for Tarick in 2005. It was an opportunity of a lifetime and Tarick made the most of it. He carried himself well on the show and was even voted back as a fan favorite in The Contender finale.
