Thank you for uploading commons:Image:Generals Rabin Dayan Narkis Jerusalem 1967.jpg to WikiCommons. However, I notice that you claim that the image is PD. What is your source for this? Apparently you took the picture from Image:Generals Rabin Dayan Narkis Jerusalem 1967.jpg but did you see a BIG sign below the picture saying This file has been listed on Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images because the information on its source or copyright status is disputed? Hello there! Thx for the thumb on Commons! One question - can you get it in higher resolution/better quality? I've been asked for that on Polish Wiki, and as I am only a middle-man here :) I'd like to ask you for that if you have a source.

Have a nice day! aegis maelstrom

[edit] Editing on es: opinion request

Hi,

I noticed that you added some good improvements such as the picture and taxobox to the Prunus (subgénero) on the Spanish Wikipedia. I know this is en: but I thought I'd ask my question over here, anyway. I started the Prunus (subgénero) article and just wanted a "neutral" opinion on the quality of my translation(s). I am not fluent in Spanish and am curious as to how bad (or not so bad) the initial comprehensibility of the translations are, as I don't want to add a bunch of translations that are considered to be machine translation quality (or worse). Sorry to be a bother. Bumm13 16:55, 4 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] re: Fair use in es

Point taken on the Wikipedia es policy regarding fair use.

As for the template issue, I don't agree. The page obviously copied the HTML of that infobox from Template:UC taxobox. How is translating the template from en to es for use in es:University of California, Berkeley and possible future U.C. articles a bad idea resource-wise? Do you think that having editors deal with that messy raw HTML will encourage a proper use of resources when someone wants to make a consistent Spanish article for UCLA?

As for being uncivil, it may have come off poorly due to my mediocre Spanish, but the brunt of my comment was meant to be a query as to why my contributions were completely reverted with no note. I should have focused on the template translation, which was a good bit of work, instead of the image, where I was evidently wrong. Mike Dillon 01:14, 25 September 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the explanation. I think it is a bit of a shame to sacrifice ease of editing for server performance, but such is life. Actually, the real bummer is that editors should have to worry about server performance at all. Take it easy, Mike Dillon 01:36, 25 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] noinclude in {main}

Hi, Ive never heard of this, can you tell me what it is used for? Stbalbach 14:21, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

Ok thanks, I didnt realize what that was at first, sorry to have reverted it. Since this template is used in a signifigant percentage of all Wikipedia articles, and there are millions of page hits every day (hour?), do you think having the extra characters embedded in the template would cause overhead to the system? As an alterative, we could list other "main" templates in the discussion page for reference, im sure most language wikipedians have one. Just some thoughts in case there evolves dozens of noincludes in the template. Stbalbach 16:11, 10 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Black Legend

You've written on the discussion board for this article in Spanish Wikipedia (I don't understand Spanish), so I ask you to have a look at the English Wikipedia article (I think Ecelan said he would have a look too). The problem there is that a reasonable introduction is followed by bits and pieces. I've made the point that this article is important in English because the Black Legend is most effective in English. The corresponding article in Dutch also looks much better than ours (I don't understand Dutch either) - perhaps a co-operation between Spanish-Dutch-English speakers could put it right. Ecelan doesn't have an English language talk page, so please put it to him.--shtove 22:27, 13 October 2005 (UTC)

Hi Taragui, you are completely right, of course. What I did was wrong, I see that now. It was good will combined with lacking experience. I ask pardon of the community. I was thoughtless. It will not happen again. Best - Rolf of Erkabo 12:56, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] History of Spanish orthography

Thanks a lot for the links. Sadly I'm not as fluent as I'd like to be. I'm Australian and know Spanish from several trips to Mexico and trying to read a few Spanish-speaking authors in the original. I'll do my best! It would be great if you or somebody else could eventually add this kind of info to Wikipedia too of course (-:

[edit] Bloqueo

Hola, necesito tu ayuda. LP. 1/11/2005

[edit] López Rega and español estándar

Thank you about the López Rega article. I'll see how I can incorporate the extra material into the English version. For the time being I've taken the photo from the Spanish article.

As an "expert" advisor on linguistics, I'm almost completely useless when it comes to sources, since I'm an amateur. I don't have a single linguistics book in my library, or references. I'll search in the net and try to compile a few links; then also the Spanish article should have an English counterpart, since it's well-written (I don't find it so Argentinocentric). We'll see. --Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 13:54, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Bot infrastructure

Hi Taragui, You are certainly welcome to what I have if it is of use to you. I have stated with data files that can be downloaded from INSEE and loaded those into a local Oracle database I set up on my laptop. I then wrote Java code to format that data into article stubs. For uploading the resulting stubs, I'm just using the standard pywiki framework - I don't actually know Python but I have been able to configure it and make small changes. Let me know if you can use any of this. Dlyons493 Talk 20:44, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

Hi, sorry for taking so long to reply - your message got hidden by another one. Does [1] cover what you need? If you have any specific questions - get back to me. Dlyons493 Talk 12:47, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
I think the only chages I made were to create a new version of pagefromfile.py called mypagefromfile.py with the following changes:

msg={

   'en':u' French arrondissement bot - ',
   }

starttext = "{{-start-}}"
endtext = "{{-stop-}}"
filename = "arr_test.utf"
include = False
utf = True

Then I saved all my articles in a Unicode file named arr_test.utf (to preserve the accents), with a tag {{-start-}} before and a tag {{-stop-}} after each article in the file. After that, I just followed the instructions. Dlyons493 Talk 18:51, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I went to run the Bot again and found what is probably the same problem you had - the paqefromfile.py doesn't seem to be working any more. Did you find a solution? Dlyons493 Talk 17:22, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

--Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 19:26, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pushforcommons

Hi, bugfix and wish done :-) I also added {{DP}} to the "good" templates, and tried to catch as many "propio"-combinations I could think of (CCs, PD, DP). Only propio|GFDL will turn into GFDL-user-w, however; I'm not sure if there are templates for CC/PD on commons. --Magnus Manske 14:37, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Y/Zeísmo...

With regards to that, thanks for the citation. I removed that paragraph the other time because it was unsourced. It seemed a bit inaccurate too, like something read once and then partly recalled, partly made up from common knowledge and POV. Your quote describes two variations of the phoneme in question, but doesn't name them distinctly or say anything about their relative "popularity" (which I doubt anybody has bothered to measure). Your first link says "Yeismo and Zeismo" but doesn't explain how the two differ. The other says "žeismo" is an alternative spelling. That's what I get from those on a quick glance; if you think anything could be added to Yeísmo and Rioplatense Spanish, please ignore my anti-OR zeal and do so. ;) —Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 20:45, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Spanish slang

Since it's really not that important, I've changed the license to CC-BY-SA, removing the use restrictions. I really don't care much for the GFDL; the CC licenses are brief and to the point. If you need anything else for this to work, just drop me a note.

I briefly thought that this could be useful when I posted it, but do you really use it for the Wiktionary? What am I going to say when I'm asked about my qualifications, diplomas, etc. by people concerned about my reliability as a source? :) —Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 21:07, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
