Tbilisi City Hall
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tbilisi City hall is the headquarters of Tbilisi Assembly(Sakrebulo) and the Mayor of Tbilisi. It stands in Tbilisi on the Freedom Square(Tavisuplebis Moedani). The building was built in Pseudo Moorish style and the yellow and brown lines striped all accros the walls of the building are testimony to this.
In the centre of the building there is a clock which rings on every full hour and plays the song Tbiliso. The building has three floors and three entrances. The main entrance is situated on the Freedom Square. The other two smaller ones are on Dadiani and on Tabidze streets. The members of the Tbilisi Assembly meet monthly in the Red Hall of the Tbilisi Assembly, which is situated in the Tbilisi City Hall building as well.
On the ground floor of the Tbilisi City Hall there is a historically important, the first apotheke of Tbilisi.
The Tbilisi City Hall has Courtyard Marriott Tbilisi on its left and the Monument of Freedom, which was officially opened by the President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili by the President of Ukraine Viktor Yuschenko and by the Chairman of Polish Sejm, in front of it.
Tbilisi City Hall was the witness of the development of Rose Revolution and has played an active role in that process. Mikheil Saakashvili used to deliver his revolutionary speeches from the balconies of that building to thousands of people who were gathered on the Freedom Square during the Rose Revolution.
