Isn't death metal sort of defined by being technical itself?

I added Arsis, I think at one point they were on here, but either I am wrong or someone has taken them off for some unexplained reason. - Josh

why are mathcore/prog metal/etc bands even on here? Whether they're technical or not is completely irrelevant - this article is clearly for Technical Death Metal bands, not any band that plays technically. Those subgenres have their own articles, and furthermore I think they should be removed from here. Please comment. --Ryouga 23:00, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
- I would agree for the most part. The problem comes with bands like Between the Buried and Me or The Red Chord that play parts of tech death and parts of metalcore. I would consider those two bands tech death because of how much expirementation they have in the death realm. They usually get the core tag because of parts of the vocals or their fans are core fans. --Daevin
I still wouldn't place those bands here, for the reason of the "core" tag, since most purists would probably not agree on grouping, let's say Ion Dissonance with Cryptopsy - what I mean is, if they have the core tag, it's for a reason, thus they should really be in the Mathcore article since that's where the technical metalcore bands go. --Ryouga 23:30, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
- I look at it on a case by case basis. Ion Dissonance is far more Dillinger Escape Plan than anyone else, therefore they are perfect fit for mathcore. However BTBAM, Red Chord, Job For a Cowboy or Despised Icon are technical deathcore. In the end it is just a tag for fans to identify more so than musical description. The core would only refer to breakdowns and not to the compositional stucture or influences. I think the purists you refer to are an arrogent majority that see any core influence and reject the entire music because of it... but then they can love Gwar even though they are far more punk than metal. I know what you mean, I am not judging any of these bands, I'm just saying that if they are math/deathcore bands, they should be ommited from this list since it is (or well, it should be) for tech death bands, you know what I mean? That or eliminate everything except the tech death and deathcore bands and just add in brackets (Technical Deathcore) for those bands....or something along those lines, so the page isn't cluttered and confusing. That's all.
- Protest the Hero (mathcore) was removed. I've seen them twice and they're not even metal. Who lets this stuff happen?
- To whoever said Job For A Cowboy are technical, they are not, their guitar parts are simple tremelo picking and dropped power chords. XdiabolicalX 23:17, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
