Teppei Teranishi (born September 13, 1980) is the lead guitarist of the post-hardcore band Thrice from Orange County, California. He favors Gibson Les Paul guitars and Fender Telecasters among others. He is also in a side project called Black Unicorn with his friend Chris Jones.
[edit] Life
Teppei was exposed to music at a very early age. By the time he was five years old he had begun to play the piano, and continued up until about the third grade. Two or three years later he started listening to metal bands like Pantera and Megadeth. In seventh grade he had discovered what he described as the "simpler but equally moving" punk rock genre, with artists such as Minor Threat and Operation Ivy. His discovery of punk led him to play guitar an increasing amount, eventually leading to classical guitar lessons; though he says he remembers none of what he was taught. While skateboarding began to take up more of his life, Teppei slowly accumulated skill in rock guitar. When Thrice formed in 1998, he didn't even know how to play with a pick. Constantly moving, he says he hopes to continue to make music many years from now.
[edit] Equipment
Teppei uses a variety of guitars, amplifiers and effects pedals, and is a self-confessed "gear nerd." He was also shown in the 2006 Fender Product Catalog with his Telecaster. In the past he has used a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Head and a Bogner Uberschall head, as a well as a Gordon Smith GS-1.5 Guitar
