Tesla White Star is the codename of a planned electric car that will be built in New Mexico, USA. Produced and designed by Tesla Motors, this car will be entirely electric and is planned to compete with the BMW 5-series. Initial construction of the assembly factory in Albuquerque should start in April 2007.[1] While the chassis, body, motor and ESS will likely be unique to Tesla Motors,[2] Albuquerque provides a central location for shipping.[3] Initial pricing is estimated at $50,000 and $65,000 for base models.

The government of New Mexico is contemplating ordering 100 White Stars at the direction of governor Bill Richardson.[4]
