Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai (1912-1999) is one the most well known Malayalam writers, both nationally and internationally. His major works like Chemmeen and Eanippadikal are intense portrayals of love and tragedy. He was awarded Pathmabhushan by the Indian government in 1987. His famous works include Anubhavangal Palichakal, Randidangazhi, Eanipadikal, Ente Ullile Kadal, Thotiyude Makan, Chemeen, Baloonukal, Ente Balyakalakadha, Oru Erinjadangal, Kayar and Akasam. He won the Kendra Sahithya Acadami Award in 1958 for Chemmeen and the Kerala Sahithya Acadami Award in 1965 for Eanipadikal. He also won the Vayalar award in 1980 for Kayar and the Soviet Land Nehru Award in 1974. Finally, in 1984 he won the supreme award for literature in India, the Jnapith Award.
