Blow: The I Can't Feel My Face Prequel (2006) |
Tha Carter II is the fifth album by rap artist Lil Wayne, released in December 2005. Artists making guest appearances on the album include veteran rappers Baby aka Birdman and Kurupt, as well as Young Money members Curren$y and Nikki. The album has sold 1.2 million in the U.S. and 2.7 million copies worldwide, making it Lil Wayne's best selling record to date worldwide.
Several music producers contributed to the album including the Williams Brothers, the heads of Cash Money Records, who claimed executive-producer rights. This is the first album from the Cash Money label that does not feature any work from longtime in-house producer Mannie Fresh.
The first single from the album is "Fireman." Lil Wayne announced that the next single from the album would be "Hustler Musik". The video premiered on BET's "Access Granted" on February 22, 2006.

[edit] Meaning of the title
In the 1991 film New Jack City, "Tha Carter" is the name of Nino Brown's efficient crackhouse. In relation to the album, "Tha Carter" is interpreted as Lil Wayne's building, crackhouse, or castle as a physical symbol for Lil Wayne's dynasty. "Carter" is also Lil Wayne's last name. It should also be noted that "Tha Carter" was released under the Cash Money Records label and Nino Brown and his clique in New Jack City was known as the CMB or Cash Money Brothers. This is the second (II) album in "Tha Carter" series.
