[edit] Story

Piper was born in Canada on April 17, 1954. After a falling out with his father, he ran away from home. He soon discovered pro wrestling and made his debut at 15 years of age against Larry "The Ax" Henning, losing to him in ten seconds.

Piper then wrestled in several territories including Oregon where he most notably feuded with Buddy Rose. Piper liked and respected the promoter Don Owen so much that when he went to the WWF, he refused to wrestle in Oregon while Owen promoted there.

Piper soon found himself in the NWA where he defeated Jack Brisco for the Mid Atlantic Heavyweight title. At Starcade in 1983, he faced Greg Valentine in a Dog Collar match. The match was so brutal that, although Piper won, he lost 50% of his hearing. Shortly after this match, Piper left the NWA for the World Wrestling Federation, debuting in January 1984.

Because of injuries sustained in the dog collar match, Piper started out as a manager. While in a bar one night with Vince McMahon, he suggested the concept of Piper's Pit, which McMahon agreed to. Perhaps the most famous Piper's Pit happend in May 1984 when he smashed a coconut over the head of "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka which led to a lengthy feud.

Piper's main rival during the mid 1980's was Hulk Hogan. On February 18, 1985, Hogan defended the WWF Championship against Piper in a match billed as the War To Settle The Score, which was shown on MTV. During the match, Mr. T (who Piper did not like personally), "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff, Bob Orton, Cyndi Lauper, and Snuka got involved in a heated confrontation which led to a tag team match between Hogan and Mr. T and Piper and Orndorff at the first WrestleMainia which Hogan and Mr. T won. On the DVD, Piper and Hogan disagree about which man was the main draw for Wrestlemainia with Piper asking "Did people pay to see Hulk Hogan? Or, did they pay to see Hulk Hogan beat up Roddy Piper?"

At Wrestlemainia II, Piper and Mr. T faced each other in a boxing match that Piper said was one of his worst matches ever. During the match, Piper took a punch from Mr. T that failed to make contact, but Piper completely fell out of the ring anyway. Shortly after this match, Piper turned face.

In 1987, Piper and Adrian Adonis feuded over which was the better show:Piper's Pit or the Flower Shop. This led to a match between the two at Wrestlemainia III in what was billed as Piper's retirement match. The loser would have his head shaved. Piper won the match with a sleeper hold. Brutus Beefcake then cut Adonis's hair. Piper then left wrestling to film They Live and spend more time with his family.

He returned to the WWF in 1989. At Wrestlemainia VI on April 1, 1990, he wrestled Bad News Brown. For this match, Piper painted half his body black. Piper denied this had anything to do with Brown's race. After Jesse Ventura left the WWF, Piper replaced him as color commentator for a while.

At the 1992 Royal Rumble, Piper defeated the Mountie to win the Intercontinental title. At Wrestlemainia VIII, he defended the title against Bret Hart. Many regard this as one of Piper's best matches. After losing the title to Hart, he left the WWF again, but would return as the guest referee for the WWF Championship match between Bret Hart and Yokozuna at Wrestlemainia X. Following this, he feuded with Jerry Lawler, defeating him at the King Of The Ring after which he took another leave of absence from the WWF.

He would return in 1996 as interim WWF President where would enter a feud with Goldust culminating in a Hollywood Backlot Brawl at Wrestlemainia XII. After winning the match, Piper left for WCW to feud with Hulk Hogan. The two had an Icon vs Icon match at Starcade 96 which Piper won.

He made a surprise return at Wrestlemainia XIX interfering in the Hulk Hogan vs Mr. McMahon match by hitting Hogan with a steel pipe. Piper soon left the WWE after HBO aired an interview with Piper in which he discussed the dark side of the wrestling business. Piper claimed on the DVD that some of what he said was taken out of context. Despite this, he returned to the WWE in 2005, and was inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame.

[edit] Goofs

  • A few matches are out of order if one chooses to watch disc 2's matches one after another instead of one at a time. Two examples are disc 2 leading off with the main event of the first Wrestlemainia a few matches before the War To Settle The Score, and Piper's Intercontinental Title defense against Bret Hart being shown before the match at the 1992 Royal Rumble where he defeated the Mountie to win the title. The same is true with a few Piper's Pit segments on disc 3.
  • On the DVD insert as well as disc 1, it lists the Dog Collar Match as being a match for the NWA United States Title when it was in fact a non title match.
