Jubei Kibagami
This character is a homage to the famed Japanese samurai folk hero Yagyu Jubei.
He is a character created by Yoshiaki Kawajiri. He is a protagonist of the show. He is a wondering vagobond ninja who wants nothing to do but rest until one day, he got himself involved in a battle between the Hiruko and the Kimon Clan. Later, one of the Hiruko Clan members gave him a Dragon Stone in which he must give it to the light maiden, Shigure. Now he is on an adventure to give the Dragon Stone to Shigure and to protect her from both the Hiruko and the Kimon Clan.
Weapon: Katana.
Special Abilities: Wind Slash Technique, Wire Usage and Head-butt.
Shigure
All her life, Shigure has lived her life in the mountains until her village was burnt to the ground by the Kimon Clan. Lost and confused, she doesn't know what to do until she meets up with Dakuan and Tsubute and realizes that she must go to the village of Yagyu.
Weapon: Knife.
Special Abilities: Playing flute.
Tsubute
A sneaky mountain thief who ends up tagging along with Dakuan and Shigure and he tries to steal the Dragon Stone whenever he can.
Weapon: Knife.
Special Abilities: Throwing and parrying rocks and stealing
Dakuan
He is a character created by Yoshiaki Kawajiri.One day, he bumps into Shigure and Tsubute and decides to help them both when in reality, he also wants the Dragon Stone for his own reason.
Weapon: Staff.
Special Abilities: Camouflage, smoke bombs, stretching cane and explosives.

Mufu
He is the leader of the Hiruko Clan who is rebelling against the Kimon Clan. When the Dragon Stone was stolen, he sends his Clan to find it and to take it back from Jubei.
Weapon: Seven-Branched Sword.
Special Ability: Mystical powers, can bring back the dead for a short period of time and wind slash technique.
Roga
He is a ninja who stole the Dragon Stone and he wishes to live in the light once before he dies. Once he met the light maiden,he tries to help her escape but fails and ends up dying in the process. Before he died, he gave the Dragon Stone to Jubei and asked him to give it to the Light Maiden and Jubei agrees to do it.
Weapon: Sharp claws.
Special Abilities: Physical strength and transformation.
Mozuku
He is a ninja who was sent to get back the Dragon Stone from Roga. By the time he tried to stop him, he was attacked by the Kimon Clan and was killed.
Weapon: None.
Special Abilities: Web Shooting.
Nekome
She is a ninja who was sent to kill Jubei and grab the Dragon Stone from him but fails and in the process, killed by Jubei's wind slash technique.
Weapons: Sharp claws coming out of her wrist.
Special Abilities: Has quick reflexes like a cat.
Nubatama
She is a ninja who likes to seduce men and hates it when she is not getting any attention from them. She tries to save the light maiden from the Kimon. She was killed by Rengoku.
Weapons: None.
Special Abilities: Using hair as weapon.
Azami
Azami is a ninja who stole half the dragon stone from Jubei but fails to bring it back to the Hiruko because she was captured and almost raped by Kitsunebi. She hates being taken advantage of.
Weapon: Can transform arms into tree daggers
Special Abilities: Can become one with a tree and control it.
Hakurou
He is a ninja who was sent to stop Jubei while Azumi escapes with half of the Dragon Stone.
Weapon: Swords.
Special Abilities: Hard reptilian skin and shooting needle-like scales from his body.
Nenmu
He is a ninja who tries to steal the Dragon Stone from Jubei.
Weapon: Various weapons.
Special Abilities: Spits needles, controls poison bandages and possesses people's bodies.
Zofu
One of the top Ninja's In the Hiruko clan, he has long grey hair, and is an exceptional swordsman almost equal to jubei, a deadly monster resides in his stomach and he has been trying his whole life to kill it.
Weapon: Longsword (used primarily with one hand).
Special Abilities: Wind slash (like Jubei's), The monster is his Belly will save itself (thus saving Zofu) if in life threatening danger.

Anden Yamidoro
He is the leader of the Kimon Clan who wants to overthrow the Hiruko Clan. He wants the Dragon Stone to use its fortune to overtake the shogun.
Weapon: None.
Special Abilities: Flying, Electricity and Burns.
Yamikubo
He is the Yamidoro's master who wishes to overthrow the Tokugawa Shogunate by using the fortune of the Dragon Stone.
Weapon: None.
Special Abilities: None.
Magai
He is a ninja who was sent to steal the Dragon Stone from Roga but he was killed by Jubei.
Weapon: Umbrella Spear.
Special Abilities: Flight.
Ubume/Yadorigi
Ubume is a ninja who was sent to steal the Dragon Stone from Roga but after she confronts Jubei for the first time, she escapes. The second time she met Jubei, she lost the battle with him. Yadorigi is Ubume's son who is attached to her.
Weapon: Whip.
Special Abilities: Fire whip and produces monsters from her body.
Jyashi
He is a skilled ninja swordsman who was sent to capture the light maiden, Shigure. He is the brother of Rengoku.
Weapons: Sword and arrows.
Special Abilities: Seeing other peoples vision by placing eye into hisright empty eye and hypnotic powers.
Rengoku
She is a ninja who is in love with her brother, Jyashi. When her brother died, all she could think of was killing Jubei, ignoring her mission to retrieve the Dragon Stone due to her insanity.
Weapons: Multiple Weapons.
Special Abilities: Can exchange body parts and has weapons within her chest.

Tatsunosuke
Calling himself Mr. Diamond, he is a thief that cannot do anything right. He later meets up with Tsubute and they both became friends. He is totally useless when he is hungry.
Weapons: None.
Special Abilities: Can transform his body into diamond
Yayoi
This is Tatsunosuke's sister. While her brother is out, she grows vegetables so that they will not go hungry. She considers her brother useless since she thinks that he cannot do anything right.
Weapons: None.
Special Abilities: None.
Yagyu Renya
He is a government ninja who was sent to find Shigure and collect the dragon stone. He is cold-blooded and he doesn't care if his men die before him.
Weapons: Katana.
Special Abilities: None.
Genza:
A man who looks after shigure whilst she lives in the hidden village, despite shigure trying to prove she isn't a child he still treats her like one.
Weapons: Katana (possibly a Wakazashi) & Throwing Stars (Shuriken).
Special Abilities: None.
