SOULJAZZ: The Heart of the Music is a jazz appreciation/history book by Michael Brewin.
It features a comprehensive history of jazz (1900-present), its greatest innovators, composers and arrangers, seminal recordings, the various instruments and diverse styles of jazz, a chapter describing how technology influenced the development of jazz, in-depth interviews with a variety of the world's leading jazz musicians, jazz improvisation explained, numerous action photographs of famous jazz musicians, and miscellaneous charts, CD discographies, and other informational resources.
