The Booze News is a tabloid newspaper written by a mostly volunteer staff. It is distributed free in campus bars, restaurants and liquor stores near the University of Illinois UIUC in Champaign, Illinois and Urbana, Illinois. It is supported by advertising from local establishments where it is distributed. Articles are satirical and humorous and they focus on the social and drinking scene at the University.
The Booze News was founded by two University of Illinois students, Derek Chin and Atish Doshi. It quickly grew into a popular campus newspaper by offering insight on topics The Daily Illini would not touch.
Former Editor-in-Chiefs include Derek Chin, Matthew Coldagelli, Rob Erickson, Alex Hedlund, and most currently Matt Doherty & Kathrine Utts (Joint).
The Booze News continues to be a popular resource for the U of I campus and more recently other campuses across the United States.
