The Boys Next Door is a 1985 relatively unknown independent movie, about two young men Bo played by Charlie Sheen and Roy played by Maxwell Caulfield, on the verge of adult life, whose bleak futures project them on a grim and violent adventure, before the mundane reality of working in an opportunitiless factory becomes as far as they are allowed to live the American dream. Angry, bitter and with no hope for their future, they embark on a frightening and disturbing orgy of sex, drink, violence and murder. The movie shows the dark and sometimes realistic facts of a mostly unknown middle America, which when you're young, angry, and see no future, anyone is susceptible to losing all fear of consequence, and the terrifying possibility that the boy next door just might be the next serial killer ready to explode.

Roy and Bo leave their small town the weekend after graduation for a short road trip to Los Angeles. Soon, they find themselves lashing out and leaving a trail of bodies behind them. The violence escalates throughout the film. They start by severely beating a gas station attendant after accusing him of short changing them. (They claim to have given him $6 when he clearly shows them the 2 $1 bills he was given.) Then Ray throws an empty beer bottle in the air and it hits an elderly lady in the head, and after they get chastised by a bunch of girls for it, they nearly take one on an unexpected joyride. Many run-ins with others lead to more deaths, including a girl named Angie when she decided she wanted Bo instead of Roy. Eventually they are found and tracked by the FBI. When they are finally cornered at a shopping mall, Ray and Bo have a standoff, which leads to Bo shooting Roy dead, and Bo ends up in prison.
