The Britpop Story was a documentary aired on BBC Four about the Britpop movement which occurred in Britain during the 1990s. The show was hosted by John Harris, who interviewed Elastica frontwoman Justine Frischmann and Louise Wener of the band Sleeper.
[edit] The show's broadcast
John Harris was the presenter of the programme, after the BBC were impressed with his 2003 book "The Last Party: Britpop, Blair and the Demise of English Rock". The show was aired in mid-August 2005, in the same week that The Battle of Britpop had been "fought" ten years earlier.
[edit] Contents of the show
The show started with a look at grunge music and how British music was at an all-time low. It charted with the development of Blur, Suede, Elastica and Sleeper. Harris recalled the time when he was at the "Good Mixer" pub in Camden Town, London with Noel and Liam Gallagher, when Graham Coxon was there. There was further information on other Britpop groups, such as Menswear. There was a focus of Tony Blair and his support of Oasis, as well as showing the decline of the movement.
