The Coma

The Coma, a novel by Alex Garland, explores the boundary between the concious and subconsious mind. The Coma was published in 2004, five years after Garland's novel, "The Beach".
Synopsis
The lead character Carl is travelling on an underground train when he finds himself defending a woman from a group of men who were bothering her. The men violently attack Carl and put him into a coma. He wakes to find that the world around him is slightly peculiar - he begins experiencing jumps in time, and finds himself in new locations suddenly with having no memory of how he got there. Carl begins to wonder whether he really has woken up at all.
