"The Diary" is the tenth episode of Freaks and Geeks. The story for the episode was conceived by Judd Apatow and Rebecca Kirshner while Kirshner wrote the teleplay. The episode was directed by Ken Olin. It first aired on January 31, 2000.
[edit] Synopsis
Bill is tired of being confined to left field during phys ed baseball games. He is constantly embarrassed by Coach Fredricks in front of his peers and is convinced he could be a great athlete if he was simply given a chance. Instead of confronting Coach Fredricks with this dilemma directly, Bill makes him two prank phone calls - one of which is comprised of entirely insults. When Lindsay's parents, Harold and Jean Weir, fear that her new friends are having a negative effect on her, Harold suggests that he and Jean look into her diary. When they do, what they read sends their marriage into a crisis.

- Mrs. Kelly preparing to eat dinner with the Weirs.
- An extended cut of Harold Weir searching Lindsay's room for her diary.
- An extended cut of Bill going into Mr. Rosso's office to steal a paper sheet of teacher's phone numbers. In this scene, Mr. Rosso enters the office before Bill has a chance to leave. To cover his actions, Bill tells Mr. Rosso that he has come to the office because his grandfather has died and he is looking for support.
- An extended cut of Coach Fredricks commencing his search to find who made the prank phone call.
- An extended cut of Bill reading the phone call.
- An extended cut of Coach Fredricks trying to find out who has been making him prank phone calls in which he accuses Sam of making the call in order to get Bill to confess.
