The Fortress of Solitude is a 2003 Jonathan Lethem novel set in Brooklyn, spanning the 1970s, '80s, and '90s. It follows two teenage friends, one black and one white, who discover a magic ring that turns them into superheroes. The novel explores the issue of race and culture, gentrification, self-discovery, and music.
