The Great Debaters (2008) is an upcoming film directed by Denzel Washington and with a screenplay by Suzan-Lori Parks and Robert Eisele. It is being produced by Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Productions. Columbus Short will star in it.

It is based on the true story of Melvin B. Tolson, who, while at Wiley College formed a debate team which beat Harvard in 1935 during the national championships. On March 16, 2007 Denzel Washington toured Harvard Yard and the campus, most likely looking at filming sites for the film [1].
