The Groggy Squirrel
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Groggy Squirrel is a website devoted to the Melbourne Comedy Industry. Established in 2004 by journalist Annette Slattery, it began as a monthly e-newsletter focusing on the Melbourne Comedy Scene. It has since grown to become an online comedy portal modelled on the format of the UK's Chortle (Chortle Website). The Groggy Squirrel is operated by a volunteer staff of eight regular writers, and often includes contributions from Australian and International Comedians.
The Groggy Squirrel consists primarily of comedy shows and venue reviews, interviews with comedians, and opinion pieces. Many Australian comedians have written for the Groggy Squirrel including Rod Quantock, Michael Chamberlin, Steven Gates of Tripod, Michael Connell, Justin Kennedy, Gabriel Rossi, Damian Callinan, Evan Jones, Michal Grobelny, Scott Steensma.
While The Groggy Squirrel operates on a year-round basis, special focus is given to reviewing shows in both the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the Melbourne Fringe Festival, and as of 2006 has also included reviews of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
