The Hardy Men is the tentative title for an upcoming comedy film starring Tom Cruise and Ben Stiller. It is an update of The Hardy Boys series of books, which follows two teenage brothers as they solve mysteries. The adult Hardy brothers have not spoken to each other in years. However, the two men put their sibling rivalry aside when they reunite to solve a mystery.[1] Shawn Levy, who previously worked with Stiller on Night at the Museum, is set to produce the film.[2] The trio wish to follow a similar premise to Mr. and Mrs. Smith.[3] Stiller will co-produce the film with Robert Kosberg, the rights holder of Hardy Boys.[3] 20th Century Fox is seeking writers to rewrite the original screenplay written by Michael Sargent.[4]
The film will be the first official feature film collaboration between Stiller and Cruise. The men formed a friendship after Cruise saw and enjoyed Stiller's parodies of him. Stiller has imitated Cruise since his days on The Ben Stiller Show.[3] The two previously collaborated on Mission: Improbable, a short film mockumentary in which Stiller played "Tom Crooze", Tom Cruise's stuntman. The short film aired during the 2000 MTV Movie Awards and was released as a special feature for the Mission: Impossible 2 DVD.[5]
