The Ings
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Ings Estate is a large, private housing estate in the North East England town of Redcar. Building began on old farmland in the late 1980s / early 1990s and has continued well into this century. New homes built more recently to the south of Redcar Road are known as Mickledales.
The area's main roads are Greenstones Road, Redcar Lane and Redcar Road. Local amenities included two public houses, Wheatlands Farm and Turner's Mill, a convenience store, a children's nursery, a fish and chip shop, a pizzeria and a salon - All of which apart from Wheatlands farm, were on Embleton Court. However, on November 1st 2006, the shop, nursery, fish and chip shop, pizzeria and salon were destroyed. It is believed that the presence of fireworks in the shop - Sainsburys/Bell's - exacerbated the damage caused. Demolition has begun on the remains, and it is assumed that the buildings will be rebuilt soon.
The local primary school is Wheatlands Primary School, while secondary school children are likely to attend the newly rebuilt Rye Hills School on Redcar Lane.
The Ings is also the name given to some playing fields on the banks of the River Wharfe at Wetherby. Currently Owned by Leeds City Council, and used by Wetherby Athletic, Wetherby Bulldogs, and Leeds United Ladies.
