The Island Def Jam Music Group
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Island Def Jam Music Group is a record label formed in 1999, when Universal Music Group merged together its two companies, Island Records and Def Jam Recordings to create a super label. Also incorporated into the venture was the staff, roster, and back catalog of Mercury Records, which was then dismantled. The Island and Def Jam imprints, meanwhile, continue to operate as their own respective labels underneath the larger IDJMG umbrella. The company also encompasses Lost Highway Records, Tuff Gong, and the pop and rock back catalog of Casablanca Records.
Some of the most notable acts on the Island Def Jam Music Group roster include Bon Jovi, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Nas, LL Cool J, The Killers, Fall Out Boy, Melissa Etheridge, Hoobastank, Mariah Carey, Lionel Richie, Rihanna, Babyface, Utada, and Saliva (band).
