The Island at the Top of the World is a 1974 film starring David Hartman and Donald Sinden as explorers who embark upon a journey in a blimp to find a mythic settlement of Vikings still living in a volcanic region near the North Pole. The novel set the location as Prince Patrick Island.
The film was based on the novel The Lost Ones, written by Ian Cameron. To tie-in with the film, the novel was re-issued with the same title. There were several changes from the book to the film. The book was set in 1960, but the film is set in 1907. Extra characters are added to the book, as well as the use of the blimp.
The film was produced by Walt Disney Pictures. It received an Academy Award nomination for its set decoration.
Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too! accompanied this film.
