The Little Black Fish

The Little Black Fish is a well known Persian children's book published in 1968 by Samad Behrangi.

The story is told through the voice of an old fish speaking to her 12,000 children and grandchildren. She describes the journey of a small black fish who leaves the safety of the local stream to venture into the world.

The path of the little fish leads down a waterfall and along the length of the river to the sea. Along the way the fish meets several interesting characters, including a helpful lizard and the dreaded pelican.

With both wisdom and courage, the fish travels far indeed, and the tale ends with the little black fish as an example for others.

This is a story of some one who is seeking freedom. The little black fish was a average person who is questioning the culture and tradtion of the pown. so, finally to reach answer to his quetions he moves out of the pown with aim of reaching sea. In his journey he meets differenet animals with different point of views.Some of them try to stop him, some of them help him to reach his dream. finally,he reaches his dream, the sea. The sea so vast so big with no restiraction. To save others alongside his own dream he dies by killing the bird who kills the fishes. His story inspire other fishes to move out.

This is a story of who ever feel the lack of freedom and tried to reach it. Espeacially the Middel East with long tradtions and culture ties. the story was wake call for many children who read his book and moved to reach freedom in diffrernt countries.I am a black fish too.

Samad Behrangi was/is a master of freedom-land, a cultural teacher of no border-land, and a live symbol of "one-globe one-land". Samad tought many children how to travel from a claustrophobic cell to the oceanic world of immensity, and in return how to contribute to relieve others who are thirst of freedom. His influence was circled around socialism as well as the acquirement of common rights. After all, we all have the same rights regardless the inheritance of traits such as skin colour and natural appearance alongside with so called compulsory inheritable race and nationality backgrounds.
