The Mavericks are a Alternative country music band. The group formed in 1989 in Miami, Florida.
The Mavericks won Vocal Group of the Year at the Country Music Awards in 1995 and 1996. They won a Grammy Award in 1996 for Best Country Performance by Duo/Group with Vocals. The group is well known for mixing in other genre's of music thats not typical for a country group, genres they've dabbled in are salsa,Orbison-esque pop rock,showtunes,gospel,vocal jazz and mambo to name just a few.
in fact lead singer Raul Malo has stated many times he used to dream of being a Roy Orbison impersonator.
