The Memory Keeper's Daughter is a New York Times Bestseller[1] by American author Kim Edwards. Published by Viking Press in June 2005, the novel gained widespread attention during the summer of 2006 after it garnered great success via word of mouth.
On a Snowy night in 1964, Dr. David Henry is forced to deliver his own twins. The first born, a boy named Paul, is healthy and fine, but when the second, a girl named Phoebe, is born with Down's Syndrome and David is forced to make a quick decision. He hands Phoebe over to his nurse, Caroline Gill, to take to an institution. Upon arriving at the institution, Carolline refused to leave Phoebe there, so she also makes a decision. She is going to keep Phoebe.
After Norah, David Henry's wife, hears about the "death" of Phoebe from David, she has a deep, empty feeling. This feeling is portrayed throughout the book resulting in Alcohol Abuse, Affairs, And Lots Of Lies from Norah, David, and Caroline.
Paul is also raised without knowing of his sister. He is lanky, and plays the guitar. He felt that David hated him, and was never proud of who he was. Paul graduated from Julliard as a musician, and in the book is made out to be a very handsome and attractive young man. (I'd date him.)
