The Mugwumps
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Mugwumps were a 1960s rock band. The Mugwumps made some recordings in the mid-60s, but the short-lived New York group is principally remembered for what its members did after they split up.
Members Mama Cass Elliot and Denny Doherty would become one-half of the Mamas and the Papas. Zal Yanovsky would join the Lovin' Spoonful. Jim Hendricks (not to be confused with rock guitarist legend, Jimi Hendrix) was the odd man out, not achieving any notable subsequent fame, but considerable success as a performer and song writer. He wrote the number one hit "Summer Rain" for Johnny Rivers and the theme song "Long Lonesome Highway" for the TV show "Then Came Bronson". His 1989 album "Running in the Light" is considered a classic of Christian music. Now living in Nashville, Tennessee, Jim has recorded over 50 albums of traditional American folk, mountain, gospel, and western music.

The Mugwumps - An Historic Recording Of The Mugwumps.
Late summer of '64. A young quartet met in Manhattan and recorded nine songs. Their sound was born too early. Too few ears were ready.
so, the Mugwumps went their own ways. Zal, Jim, Cass and Denny moved on to other groups, other kicks. Each eventually entered that weird world of sudden hits, royalies, Aston-Martins.
What the Mugwumps left behind is this series of nine historic recordings. Recordings that are the grassroots of today's pop sound.
Recordings that,today,sound even better.
