[edit] Plot
The title of the film refers to the famous painting by Goya, La Maja Desnuda or The Naked Maja.
The Duchess of Alba (Ava Gardner) is the muse and paramour of Spanish painter Francisco Goya (Anthony Franciosa). While the Prime Minister of Spain, Manuel de Godoy (Amedeo Nazzari) schemes to betray his country to Napoleon's forces and the Spanish Inquisition is winding to a close, Goya is trying to survive the pangs of love he feels for the aloof Duchess.
