The Nutcracker Prince is a 1990 animated film directed by Paul Schibli and based on the story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King by E.T.A. Hoffmann and influenced by its ballet adaptation The Nutcracker. The film features the voice talents of Megan Follows as Clara, Kiefer Sutherland as The Nutcracker and Peter Boretski as Uncle Drosselmeier. Music from Tchaikovsky's ballet rendition is used at throughout the film as the main instrumental soundtrack.

Clara's family are celebrating Christmas when Uncle Drosselmeier arrives at their home with a special gift for Clara. He presents her with a Nutcracker, and tells her a story on how the Nutcracker came to became the Prince of the Dolls. Supposedly the Nutcracker was once a boy, but was put under a spell by the Mousequeen just before she died. Clara thinks nothing of the story until later that night she witnesses the Nutcracker and the rest of the toys come to life, and are attacked by the Mouseking and his minions who are out for revenge. Clara gets drawn into the battle between the Nutcracker and the Mouseking and eventually ends up taking a magical journey to the Nutcracker Prince's castle.
