The Pilgrims of Rayne is the eighth book in D.J. Machale's Pendragon series of books. On October 17th, 2006, DJ announced the title to be "The Pilgrims of Rayne" on the series's official website. Originally entitled, "Pendragon the Great," DJ stated that it no longer fit the book. The release date was announced as May 8, 2007. Number of pages had not been determined as of yet.
On the official website, it was stated that "DJ has [allegedly] said that the book will not take place on only one territory, but multiple ones."
DJ has announced that he will unveil the cover of this book and give an excerpt in late March 2007. In mid-February, a cover was released on Amazon.com [1]and the Barnes and Noble website [2].
However, the following is an official message from the author on his website[3]:
"I've been getting lots of e-mails asking about the cover that has appeared on the Barnes & Noble website for The Pilgrims of Rayne, so I thought I should address this. This is NOT the cover for The Pilgrims of Rayne. This was a quickie mock-up done by the publisher to put in their book catalog several months ago. They needed artwork for the catalog, and since the real cover hadn't been made yet, they threw this one together using the Bobby from the cover of Black Water. I'm not sure how it found it's way on to the Barnes & Noble website. The real cover is nearly complete and I'll post it on the website in March or April. So...fear not. The cover on the web now isn't real."

[edit] Summary
The following text was found on the Barnes & Noble web site:
(From the publisher)"The eighth installment in the New York Times #1 best-selling series Pendragon. Bobby is in Ibara, the next territory he must save from Saint Dane's plans. What he finds there is a tropical island paradise with a twist. Though the people live simply, growing or fishing for their food, living in grass huts, there are signs of civilization - lights and other technological advances. But no one can give him answers as to how the inconsistencies came to be. Either they're not talking or they don't know.
Then Bobby meets the Jakills, a group of kids who form a tribe outside of the main societal group who are determined to discover the truth behind Ibara. Bobby agrees to join them and together they steal a boat and set off to find the truth.
But what they discover is more sinister than even Bobby could have imagined, and, of course, it all comes back to Saint Dane and his attempts to start the Convergence. But as Bobby works to save Ibara, he unwittingly puts the Convergence, whatever that might be, into motion - just as Saint Dane had planned."
It has not been confirmed as of yet whether or not this information is true, however. We are waiting for DJ to make an announcement.
[edit] Characters
The only confirmed characters as of now are:
- Robert "Bobby" Pendragon - Main character and lead traveler, from Second Earth.
- Courtney Chetwynde - A girl who used to be Bobby's paramour and his rival in sport; Is one of the acolytes from Second Earth.
- Mark Dimond- Bobby Pendragon's best friend before his adventure began. The second acolyte from Second Earth. Currently missing and possibly with Saint Dane.
- Saint Dane - Shapeshifting demon, the antagonist in the series. Original territory is currently unknown.
[edit] Trivia
- D.J. MacHale, author of the Pendragon series allegedly stated that "The Pilgrims of Rayne" will not take place on only one territory, but multiple.
- The December before The Quillan Games came out (2005) DJ released the cover and an excerpt for the fans. In an announcement on the forum, DJ stated that this time around he will not be putting up anything of the sort until about a month before the US Release of the book.
- On The Guide to the Territories of Halla's last page, the Territories are listed in "order". Each book, thus far, has corresponded to this "order"; so, following this line of thought, Ibara could very well be be the main setting of "The Pilgrims of Rayne". If the summary from Barnes&Noble is true, however, the story will be taking on Ibara, and all the books will have corresponded.
