The Rodings of Essex

The Rodings are a group of parishes in the county of Essex, England. They are believed to be the remnants of a single Anglo-Saxon community known as the Hroðingas i.e. "People of Hroða". The typical pronunciation of the name is "Roadings".
In 1086 these eight ecclesiastical parishes in west Essex contained sixteen separate manors and other, minor holdings. They had been formed by the piecemeal fission of a single land-unit, the aforementioned Anglo-Saxon community.
Abbess Beauchamp and Berners Roding now form a single parish in the district of Epping Forest.
