The Virginia Informer is a student-run newspaper at The College of William and Mary. It does not receive any funding from the College and often challenges the school's decisions, such as President Gene Nichol's decision to remove the Wren Cross.
The Informer created controversy in early 2006 when it printed the name of a female student who falsely accused a fellow student of rape at a sorority party held at the house of a member of the Board of Visitors. The Informer also called on that member, John Gerdelman, to resign.
The newspaper is officially non-partisan but known to support generally conservative opinions.
