NGC 3031 is a San Jose noise rock band formed in 2005. They are an instrumental band currently. The members of the band are Justin Meinecke on guitar, Andrew Reiger on drums and bass and Sumit Sijher on rhythm guitar.
The band's sound is an ambigious clutter of chaotic white noise and guitar improvisation. Justin is well known for his almost atonal work with the bow and the use of feedback as an instrument, the influence of symbolism and classical music is also prevalent. Andrew's drumming for thrashcore and hardcore punk bands has induced drumming that is at often times spastic and difficult to comprehend, but precise and calculated. Sumit's classical training as a musician brings another aspect to the already diverse band. Comparisons have yet to be made towards NGC 3031. NGC 3031's ealier creations proved to be more abstract and surreal, but later works show compositional merit and astuteness.
The band formed early in Justin's mind far before it manifested into a actual band. Music for the project was during the year 2004 and later became close friends with Sumit Sijher at high school. The duo quickly viewed themselves as a musical collective, and began recording compositions of their own. Gaining hype within their community, Andrew Reiger, an aquaintence turned fan began to play with the band during their private sessions. The band is still in it's infancy, but is slowly maturing into a formidable force within the musical community.
NGC 3031 is currently under intense discussion regarding the direction of the music, and what will be implemented in the future. NGC 3031 has plans for putting out a cd before the end of 2006
