Ma Vie En Rose, or My Life In Pink, released 1997, is a movie set in a suburban French neighborhood as a family, new to the community, tries to make a place for themselves.
In the opening scene, we find the whole neighborhood welcoming the family into their community at a festive housewarming party. As each member of the family is introduced to the applause of their merry audience, the father is startled to see his son come out wearing makeup and a dress. The boy’s father quickly dismisses this appearance as a joke, but it becomes increasingly apparent to everyone around them that it was not a fleeting jest, but a persistent tendency of Ludovic, the boy. At seven years old, Ludovic is convinced he was meant to be a girl.
The movie illustrates Ludovic’s and his family’s effort to come to terms with his gender identity crises and their neighborhood’s rejection of them in response to his feelings and actions. Ludovic’s unfaltering certainty that he was meant to be female leads to opposition, alienation and ridicule from other members of the community, both adults and children. The tension that this creates in the community put stress upon every member of the family. His mother and father’s parenting skills are questioned, he is kicked out of school, his father loses his job, and the family is eventually forced to move out of the neighborhood. Through this struggle, the family’s bonds are tested, but they become stronger by the conclusion of the movie.
The movie served as a good showcase of the ignorance and fear of the unknown that prevails in the lives of many people who remain conservative in their social views and don’t question society as it is. The portrait of a flawless suburban community disrupted by something that they aren’t familiar with evokes images of the intolerance that has run rampant through society for hundreds of years. The movie reflects the discrimination that many people have experience due to race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or any other difference that can be condemned by others. I felt a sense of discomfort throughout my watching of the movie, which was probably meant to mirror that of Ludovic and his family. I felt sympathy for him and his family as they grew and learned through the experiences that they were forced to struggle through by their intolerant and prejudiced neighbors, and I grew to hate the community members who worked so hard to continue living their monotonous and unquestioning lives at the cost of an entire family’s well-being. This movie did a good job of showing the emotions and confusion that the main characters felt throughout the unending subjugation that they endured from their seemingly heartless neighbors.
The movie concludes with more hopeful prospects. In their new neighborhood, there is a tomboy nearby who apparently is more comfortable living as a stereotypical boy would. Ludovic’s family learns to accept him, and he learns how to be less aggressive in his campaign to prove to the world that he is girl. I would rate this film positively, though there were moment when I found the movie difficult to watch. I would reccomend this movie to anyone with an open mind.
Case 1 The blood found on the window of Brodkey Jewelers tested A-. Suspect four’s blood also tested A-, so it is likely that committed the crime.
Case 2 Frocrum Plain was the only missing person fitting the description that had the same blood type that was found in the body. If the remains that washed up on the Missouri River came from one of the four missing people, then it was Plain.
Case 3 Suspect A’s blood most closely matches the blood found under the victim’s nails, but he tested negative for Rh, while the blood found tested positive.
Case 4 King Caspian had to be the father of Prince Richard because prince Richard tested positive for Rh, and King Caspian was the only person who could have parented the child that also tested positive for Rh.
Case 5 There is only one person whose blood matches both the spots. The spots have to be Romeo’s blood because they both tested O- and Romeo was the only suspect whose blood tested O-.
Case 6 Bunnicula will live. The second donor has O- blood. Bunnicula can use this blood because it has the same Rh as he does and O blood can be universally donated.
Case 7
Case 8 The blood found on car and the blood from the victim both tested AB+. Out of the three, Car C was most likely to have hit her.
Case 9 There were three youths who were suspected of crashing a boat. The second youth was probably the one that crashed the boat, as blood left on the wheel and his blood both tested B+.
Case 10 According to results found through blood tested, the child that Sissilie claims is the product of her love affair with Raymone is not Raymone’s. To make it more confusing, it isn’t hers either.
Case 11 LaFred Gerder probably has sickle cell anemia, as some of her red blood cells are sickle-shaped.
