"This Is the New Shit" is the second single off Marilyn Manson's album The Golden Age of Grotesque. It is seen as a poppy song, with several new industrial beats that Tim Skold added when he joined the band as the bassist in 2002. It was the most successful song off of "The Golden Age of Grotesque" following mOBSCENE. The UK release features the band's cover of The Geto Boys' "Mind of a Lunatic." British Band Goldfrapp created a remix of the song in 2003 called Marilyn Manson vs Goldfrapp. This featured as the second track on the UK release of "This Is the New Shit", the cd also contained the video for the single.
For its music video counterpart, an alternate recording was used with the lyrics "This is the new hit" and the song title reading "This Is The New *Hit."
