Thomas Gilbert

Thomas Gilbert (1720-1798) was a poor-law reformer who was in British parliament from 1763 to 1795. His name is given to an Act of Parliament known as Relief of the Poor Act 1782 better known as Gilbert's Act which aimed 'for the better relief and employment of the poor'.
